School Closings and Delays

We recognize changes in our regular schedule due to weather delays and closing are disruptive to normal routines and have implications for learning in our classrooms, as such we take our decisions to alter the school schedule seriously. Maintaining progress and growth in the classroom is vitally important.

We are equally committed to making the best decision we can to ensure that our students and staff can travel to and from school safely. We utilize a team approach to make decisions about delays and closings:
● Our driving team (Superintendent, Transportation Staff, and Operations Director) assesses road conditions beginning at 4:00am
● We collaborate with law enforcement, other school districts, and community safety personnel to get a comprehensive assessment of conditions
● Decisions are made for delays and closings by approximately 5:10am and communicated through a variety of platforms (Phone call and texting system, Radio         and TV announcements, District Website, FaceBook @MarysvilleEVSD, Twitter@MarysvilleEVSD and @DianeAllen1246)

Closings - We are alway reluctant to close our schools due to the impact on families and learning. Closings will generally be reserved for heavy snow, ice, power/heat outages, and extreme cold.

Delays - A delay may occur in order to provide additional time for conditions of roads, sidewalks, and parking lots to improve.

Early Dismissals - The decision to release students early is extremely complicated and creates many childcare issues for our families. We attempt to avoid this option; however, situations may occur which necessitate leaving early.
